in the statehouse " it's 2nd amendment day at the statehouse so the for 5 bills on the regarding regarding access to firearms to state of emergency, one dealing atvs, another deals with confidentiality, 5th and most contentious involves kids 14 and under able to use guns, created large and long debate on house floor logically- does it make sense for a 1 year old to hold and shoot a handgun yes or no? even people who are experienced with firearms harem themseves accidentally, so the thought that a 1-5 year old even under supervision should be firing a handgun is ludicrous. this is the best bill expanding 2nd amendment rights, puts rights back in hands of parents. any criticism-- parents rights, that's all very well and good if every parent is beaver cleaver- the perfect parent."

plan statewide. the proposed plan received federal approval today and would change iowa's medicaied to a managed care system following suit to 39 other states. the change has seen stiff opposition in the state capitol. with senate democrats looking to pass a measure that would interfere with the medicaid changes. governor terry branstad has already promised a veto if the bill passes. tim: a plea hearing is scheduled in plymouth county court for a 20-14 homicide case... tim: 45-year-old johnathan neunaber is scheduled to appear in court monday. initially the court was set to rule on a motion to suppress by the defense. but now judge steven andreasen has changed proceedings to a plea hearing. he found neunaber fit to stand trial in the death of his 80- year-old mother esther neunaber. tim: usually getting a traffic ticket isn't a pleasant experience. not for those issuing and receiving a ticket. jenna: but today council bluffs police got a pleasant

when they got a note from a driver ticketed for running a red light. the department posted the note on twitter the driver saying "clearly, i was not paying attention. a ticket is minor if i consider that i could have hurt or killed someone. i generally think i am a good, safe driver, but now i see i need to be much better." tim: research shows iowa has some of the highest rates of colon cancer in the nation... and those numbers spike in northwest iowa. doctors say they aren't sure why..... but they do know that getting screened with a colonoscopy significantly reduces the risk of getting the often fatal disease. with that in mind, i recently agreed to get my first colonoscopy and dr. jeff michalak and the folks at dunes surgical hospital agreed to let abc9 bring cameras in for the procedure.

at ten, we'll show you why there really is no reason not to have the often life saving procedure. " no one who put it off and had a probloem says oh yea im glad i did. everyone says i should have done it sooner. and now we know that starting atthe age of 50 when we start having trhe increased risk of cancer that one colonoscopy is the way to do it because we have prooved it in studies, and two everyone that has it done says just like you, i should have had it done sooner," said dr. jeff michalak. tim: part two of "screen for life" is tongith at ten. jenna: the zika virus is back in headlines today the centers for disease control saying they are investigating 14 new reports of the virus in the sates, suggesting these new cases were tranitted sexually. zika's been confirmed in 23 u-s states including here in iowa. jenna: and as a response to the zika virus, lifeserve blood center is springing to action to protect their blood supply. they've announced they'll be taking

ensure the safety of the local blood supply by requiring donors who have been to zika affected areas in south america to wait at least 28 days before donating blood. "our normal screening questions would rule out anyone who did happen to have zika. we need all of our donors to be healthy and so if someone came in and did have symptoms, we would catch those, they wouldn't be able to donate. if your or someone you know is interested in donating blood, you can schedule an appointment on their website or call the number on your screen.. tim: there's really no way to ease the pain of losing a childe. but one siouxland family is trying to help make that worst day a bit easier, by giving the gift of time. jenna: jeremy and lisa cotter lost their own daughter at birth a year ago today and donated a cuddle cot to unity point health st. luke's to help future parents that might suffer the same loss. our elisa raffa has more. elisa: jenna, tim... words

the emotion that filled the room this morning at unity point health st. luke's. the cotter's say it was a bittersweet morning. solemn in remembrance of their little girl, but joyful that they could honor her today with their donations. "in a perfect world, this thing would sit unused at the hospital forever" says jeremy cotter, donated cuddle cot to unity point health st. luke's. jeremy and lisa cotter had the worst day of their lives a year ago . lisa gave birth to two beautiful twin girls, but one was stillborn. on what would have been elizabeth's first birthday, the cotters are using the anniversary of their loss as a day to honor their daughter. and bring solace finding themselves in a similar position. "we're doing it in honor of elizabeth. we're celebrating her birthday. this is her birthday present to the hospital, other families...and it feels good to do that" says jeremy cotter, donated cuddle cot to unity luke's. alongside a generous donation of two thousand seven hundred dollars to nicu, the cotter's donated unity point health cuddle cot gives parents extra time with their stillborn baby by
6:07 pm
longer and allows parents to be comfortable in a hospital room instead of a morgue. "a cuddle cot's main task, i guess, is to preserve time. it's actually a cooling unit that lies in the basinett, and then the infant is placed on top of the cooling blanket and it maintains a body temperature that is much lower than normal" says suzie gosph, labor delivery nurse at unity point health st. luke's. without a cuddle cot, parents must go back and forth to the morgue, making the grieivng process that much harder. "nobody wants to go through what we went through" says lisa cotter, donated cuddle cot to unity point health st. luke's. "it's something that, to use an old phrase, i would not wish on my worst enemy any day. it's an awful experience" says jeremy cotter, donated cuddle cot to unity point health st. luke's. "it's just a very difficult process. so, this is going to help so much and as a labor delivery nurse, being the one that is in the room delivering the baby, i can't thank the cotter's enough. it will make my job a little easier, if there's such a thing" says suzie gosph, labor delivery nurse at unity point health st. luke's. nurses at unity point health st. luke's say it is an honor that the cotter's thought their care was good enough to deserve such a needed gift. "elizabeth will definitely be remembered each and every time that we have to use it" says suzie gosph, labor delivery nurse at unity point health st. luke's.
